MSA Mentorship Program |
The Mentorship program aims to provide support to students through peer support that is spiritual or academic in nature, as well as other types of support. The purpose is to provide Muslim Students Association members, as well as the wider campus community, an outlet for questions and concerns. The program would allow for students to ask specific religion-related questions, ask for advice, seek academic advising from experienced peers, or simply vent about their situation. A good outcome for students who show up and participate in this program is that they will be better able to adjust to college life, gain a little experience about being Muslim on campus, or if they are in a tough situation they can find a helping hand or be redirected to a resource that can better assist them.
Students will be able to exchange skills and knowledge. Anyone will have the option of being a mentor or mentee. Some examples of mentor and mentee relationships may be a student who doesn’t know much about Islam and would like to be with someone who does. There may be a student who was raised Muslim but stopped practicing and would like to re-engage themselves in Islam. There may also be someone who just wants to learn more about Islam and maybe even someone who wants to convert and would like a knowledgeable mentor. Aside from that, mentors will be available of other skill sets as well. Students may be matched by major or career interest, or even specific skillsets that they are willing to help out with. We expect that there will be many students who will want to be participate and we will have many trained mentors.
